I have a Dell Inspiron E1705 running Xubuntu 10.04. I had problems controlling sound via the volume buttons on the front when it was running Ubuntu (8.10 to 10.04), but this fix: http://art.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1317562 made the buttons behave somewhat normally. I implemented this exactly the same in Xubuntu, however the volume buttons now only change the balance instead of doing anything to the level of sound. I assume xfce uses a different controller, and that is what I need to edit. I would greatly appreciate any help.
