login to search?

Maybe it's just me but I am finding that it it is taking a lot more time to get around this site. The server seems fast enough but it used to be as simple as one click to search, find all new post or unanswered posts but now it all requires a login and then a couple of clicks. For people on slow machines or connections it seems kinda pointless and I imagine bit of a turn off.
Is there a point to the change?
