Nvidia Resize desktop equivilant for lcd tv

On windows I can enter the nvidia control panel and resize my desktop to fix the issues with the image extending beyond the screen, I believe it's called overscan.

The nvidia control panel on linux doesn't have any options to do this and I was wondering how I would go about fixing this?

I'm looking to use my lg 42LG52 in 1080p on my 8600gts.

Found a solution although it doesn't have to do with linux, on the display itself there's an option under aspect ratio called just scan. When the display is set to use just scan it works fine.

Also saw another possible solution for those who cant switch to just scan. There's a package called awn where you can set the panels position offset.
