So I'm a newb to ubuntu and I have two desktops I just had wiped clean, there is nothing on the drives. I DL the latest version, burned to CD and tried to get the machines to boot the CD so I can install the software.

I get nothing but reboot retry press F1.

can you boot from any CD's? is the optical drive set as first bootable drive in your BIOS?

I haven't tried to boot from any other discs, but I did make sure the optical drive is the first to boot.

What are the specs on your machine? That could make a big difference as well. If its an older machine try this link (http://releases.ubuntu.com/lucid/ubuntu-10.04.1-alternate-i386.iso). It is the 32bit alternate install of Lucid Lynx.

Did you expand the ISO image onto the CD using an image-burning program, or did you just burn the file to the disk? Just burning an ISO file onto a data disk will not produce a usable CD.
