Hello everybody, I just got a friend to switch to ubuntu! Although security and the price was one of the reasons for his plight to open source what really got his attention was all of your cool gnome desktops :D (the screenies). My friend would like to learn how to customize his desktop i.e. true transparency, transparent taskbars, custom icons, the works. Personally, I use FVWM so I can't be of much help unless its the more technical aspects of running a linux machine. Therefore, I turn to you, the guardians that is all gnome beautifulnesses, in hopes you will answer my plea. May anyone suggest some good guides (ranging from beginner to otherwise) on how to customize the gnome desktop?
My thanks in advance,
n0dl

There is a link to a guide for customizing on the front page of this forum, check it out. If it's eyecandy your after, you can get gdesklets for function and fluff. you can also try kubuntu-desktop with superkaramba for different applets on the desktop. The list is endless.
