I have just installed Konqueror through synapic package manager. I cant see where it went and still nautillus opens instead of Konqueror when i open folders. how can i make Konqueror my default filr manager?

Also does firestarter turn on by itself or do i have to turn it on myself?
Is there a firewall that starts on startup?

To use konqueror instead of nautilus, you can select system --> preferences --> main menu --> tools and there you select the file browser, using the command for running konqueror ( perhaps /usr/bin/konqueror, I aam not for sure because I use nautilus ).

By default, ubuntu has ufw firewall, to configure it you can install its gui : gufw.

About firestarter, this thread can help you https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Firestarter

The only place after going system>prefrences>main menu is in application>system tools.
I want it to be the one that opens up when i go to places>Home folder

Here http://www.ubuntugeek.com/switch-to-a-lightweight-filemanager.html, there is a link explaining howto replacing nautilus for other file browser in Places, bear in mind that some windows will be remain controlled by nautilus.
