Im running ubuntu 10.04, and use ratpoison as window manager. It works well even with gnome programs such as gnome-terminal. However when I enable autologin (by editing /etc/gdm/schemes), my gnome settings get messed up. I get a font that I dont want, and the mouse cursor turns into an x. The font can be changed back with by running gnome-control-center. But I want things to work directly when I login.

How can this not work, when logging in via gdm manually works?
