Use Freecorder in Win7 to record streaming audio and save it as an mp3. Anyone know of a similar program for Ubuntu 10.04? Tried Sound Recorder but I guess that's just for a microphone. Streamripper only seems to work on ShoutCast. Thanks.

Have a look here:

Let me know if that fits the bill. There are other threads on this forum addressing the very same issue.

There are many options to record streams 'as is' or record and convert. mplayer and vlc are useful here, both in realtime or scheduled. (several threads on both are easily searched

What may be of interest though is a gui version of a 'pa-clone' script that records/converts what is playing to wav, ogg or mp3.
Basically a record/convert 'what you hear'

While it has some limitations and a few dependencies seems to handle most formats well.
The other minor thing is sort of a chicken and egg deal - start recording then stream or start stream then the recorder.

Any way it seems interesting and is new so may mature and or be 'adjusted' thru it's source if needed.

Outrec works just like Freecorder. Thanks.
