I have some Maverick updates on hold because of some software conflicts, and I am unsure which option to take. The two new packages on hold have to do with Brasero and they are in conflict with two other packages for Rhythmbox. The software manager is telling me that in order to install the Brasero packages, I will have to remove the Rhythmbox packages.

So, my question is, which should I prefer, Brasero or Rhythmbox?

Thanks,
Tim

Depends entirely on which program you make the most use of.

Well, I never use Rhythmbox. I never overtly use Brasero, either, but isn't it used by Nautilus when burning CD's and DVD's?

You should wait until the upgrade works correctly and then you can have both ;)
