I have installed a PCI 5.1 channel StarTech snd card (chipset: CMI8738 and Creative Headphone/mic combo. HS-390. Use 10.04 with all updates and sound works fine to speakers from the Gigabyte S-series mb 'realtec' snd chip. Checked the ALSA card file and the driver for my new card CMI8738 is there and multi-media systems selector 'Audio' informs me that the card is recognised. However, system testing gives no response for either input or output to headphone/mic.
Have tried headphone jack in both Front - Out and Centre/Sub-woofer out with the mic jack in the mic - IN socket.
I have exhausted my limited ability.
All help gratefully received.

Given up - dumped kit.
