Problem with wifi?

Whenever i use Ubuntu Lucid Lynx, i try to get an internet connection, but even after typing in the security pass and such (which i guarantee is correct), I am still not able to get a connection. Is this a problem with my laptop (Thinkpad X61) or Ubuntu?

The security password might be looking for a key (a long number in hex)which is based on the pass-phrase. Good luck.

I am having the same problem with 9.10. It asks for WPA password which I know is correct but it does not seem to connect?

What would it be in hex? or is it something else?
