Hiya everyone,

I have tested gnome-shell on ubuntu 10.04 and like what i see (even though unfinished) has anyone any idea when final verion is due?

I've heard at Ubuntu 10.10 (but now dropped), October 2010 and lately March 2011.

I don't mean as standard ubuntu default but stable and available in repo's, I am happy to add it manaully when finished.

Thanks in advance

Oh well guess its my fault for not using google first.

From official GNOME website:/!\ Release Team announced on July 29th that GNOME 3.0 will be released in March 2011.

Looks like were in for a long wait then, mind you at least its a good thing rather than end up with a new bug-ridden and unusable gnome shell, least it should be stable by then. :-)

Oh the irony...

But on a more serious note, when is it going to be "finished" and released? The gnome3.org website only lists a LiveCD version. I don't want to consider moving to Unity without at least trying the finalized version of gnome 3, but when will that be?

It has already been released. If you want to compile it yourself, you'll find the source code here: http://library.gnome.org/misc/release-notes/3.0/#rninstallation
