I have a friend i got on Thunderbird.
she wants to use an out of office reply... I read you have to leave the pc on 24/7...is there another way for her to do this?

It depends on her mail provider. I use Lunarpages for my hosting and have my primary email setup on there. I am able to setup an auto-reply to be sent by the server so I don't have to leave the PC on. I would look towards that first, but if it's not an option, then it sounds like you'll have to leave a PC on.

Precisely. If you are using a pop server or something, say from a Gmail, Roadrunner, whatever, if which you simply get your mail forwarded from those to Thunderbird, all you have to do is log into your account at the actual website, using the same username and password as you do in Thunderbird, and there you can set the out of office reply thing.
