View Full Version : [ubuntu] No 5.1 Analog in Sound Preferences ACL883 Ubuntu 9.10 x64

Hi,
I seem to have "lost" the option of 5.1 a couple of days ago and it driving me nuts. It was working fine since the last time I fixed it and it will just not output to anything other than the front-left and front-right.

Here is some useful info (with some commenting removed):

If anyone knowns how to get my 'Analog Surround 5.1" back so I have that sweet surround sound again, I would be truly grateful!!

i had simple problem mine is 64 bit system, ubuntu 9.10

i simply installed removed and reinstalled pulseaudio, and gnome-alsamixer

ie for gnome-alsamixer

sudo apt-get remove --purge gnome-alsamixer
sudo apt-get install gnome-alsamixer

open up gnome alsa mixer in the menu and adjust the settings on more than one bar, same goes for pulse (ie right click the volume /prefrences pick output 5.1 ect).

dunno where me sound went but its back now :-)
its actualy a 7.1 system but happy with 5.1 for now as only got 5.1 speaker setup though card is 7.1 capable.

I noticed in the daemon.conf file the line with "default-channels = 6" is commented. The problem could be it needs to be uncommented by removing the ";"at the beginning of the line.
Change "; default-sample-channels = 6" to " default-sample-channels = 6" Hope this helps. :)
ps; don't forget you need to reboot after editing the conf file.

That is correct. If commented out it won't change a thing.
