Is there a way to fix the desktop icon and or documents, so that when you use multiple desktop enviroments, the icons and documents don't just move with it?

Do you mean when switching desktops using the virtual desktop switcher located on the panel, having a differnt desktop layout or using different desktop environments...eg: XFCE, Fluxbox, Gnome?

Virtual desktops, within Gnome. so with the desktop switcher
