View Full Version : [SOLVED] Installing Printer Drivers

August 4th, 2010, 04:31 AM
I just installed Ubuntu on a newly-built desktop, but can't seem to get my printer to work. It's a Brother MFC-7340 connected via USB. Ubuntu recognized the printer by model name, but when it went out to look for the driver, the search process doesn't show that model listed.

I downloaded/saved the correct Linux LPR driver and Cupswrapper driver -- both have .deb extensions -- from the Brother website. Then "opened" the packages with the Gdebi package installer. When I tried "adding" the printer again, the system went out to search for drivers again just as before, again not finding that model.

How can I tell it that the drivers are now on my box? Is there another install procedure that I am missing? Ubuntu is great, but if I can't get my printer to work, I have no choice but to go back to Windows.

Many thanks, Dr. Kurian! . . . will give Ray Woodcock's method a try.
