I just installed Firefox 1.5.0.1 going by the instratuctions from FirefoxAMD64FlashJava (http://wiki.ubuntu.com/FirefoxAMD64FlashJava). I tried installing Tab Mix Plus and a few other extensions and after restarting Firefox and wanting to configure these extensions and the "Preferences" option is disabled on all the extensions. I'm guessing this is because the extensions are being installed into the previous installation of firefox (firefox-ubuntu)?

Also a weird glitch: the text cursor is acting up when moving through text - the cursor just doesn't disappear.

Interesting, I can't confirm this as all of my plug-ins are configurable. But I think the key difference between our installs is that I installed & configured firefox in a 32-bit chroot then used the FirefoxAMD64FlashJava wiki. To my surprise, all of my extensions & themes were already present. This might be the difference.

I reinstalled Ubuntu (I screwed up installing my GFX drivers :p) and installed firefox the same way again... and everything works now](*,) I think that I installed the Windows version of the extension before because I don't remember pressing on a "Install for linux" button but rather "install" when instaling the extension... well either way all is good and there are no bugs with that method :)
