View Full Version : Mythbuntu box streaming to Playstation 3/No TV wanted

Hey everybody. I had an idea. I just canceled my cable tv service and am very happy with that choice. What I would like to do is stream internet video, Hulu specifically, to my TV through my PS3.

I have seen tutorials on integrating Hulu Desktop into Mythbuntu, but what I was wondering is, can I stream that content via UPnP to the PS3, or do I have to have a dedicated video card out to the TV using the Mythbuntu frontend? Like this....

Hulu + Mythbuntu Backend + UPnP + PS3 = Hulu on TV

or do I have to run a DVI/HDMI to the TV from the Mythbuntu box and use a frontend.

I sure hope I make sense. Thanks for any help.

just use PlayOn.

or get a playstation plus membership and an invite for hulu plus.

or use MythTV and run hulu desktop, just add Hulu Desktop to the MythTV frontend

I don't want to use, and cannot use Playon (Mac and Linux in my house) I don't want to pay $50 for a year of Playstation plus then $10 a month for the "premium" hulu. I just want to use my PS3 as a frontend via UPnP. I loaded up XP on an old box and tried out Tversity but it never worked. So got my refund and want to get rid of the windows. So, main question is....

Can I stream Hulu from a Mythbuntu backend through a UPnP connection onto the PS3 and watch it from the "media server" section of my PS3?

Probably not, but it never hurts to ask.

I did some googling (http://www.lmgtfy.com/?q=hulu+on+ps3+ubuntu&l=1)

found this: http://www.ypass.net/blog/2009/09/got-a-ps3-want-hulu-back-and-youre-a-windows-user-also-easy-enough%E2%80%A6/

I have no idea if this works but It will allow you to use Hulu through the PS3 browser
