Kache

I've got a Sony VAIO tz130. I've had Ubuntu installed since Gutsy and have just been upgrading at every release, with minor problems. I upgraded to 10.04 a few months ago, but I didn't have time to address this problem then.
I get absolutely no response from my keyboard at any point past grub.
Keyboard works fine when boot into Windows. Plugging in a usb keyboard doesn't work. Other usb devices work fine.
I can log in using the accessibility on screen keyboard, but that's it.
I can't even type into terminal.
How do I get use of my keyboard back?
