How'd you get your top panel to look like that?
It's a background pic..
You can just drag-and-drop any picture you want to your panel :) It looks best if you make the picture exactly the same size your panel is.. Even transparent pics work, altough transparency is a bit broken in Gnome 2.14.0 and you get some strange colors.

Just went minimalistically shiny about 30 min ago.
http://bit-tech.woventhorns.com/ss.2006.04.01_small.png (http://bin.woventhorns.com/ss.2006.04.01.png)
Background made in Inkscape and exported as a transparent PNG (so I can change the desktop background color and still get the "shiny" effect)
I made the M88 icon (http://bin.woventhorns.com/m88_with_headphones117.png) and the gnomesword icon (http://bin.woventhorns.com/gnomesword117.png) (the one on the bottom), but the rest were from weboso's deviant art page (http://weboso.deviantart.com/gallery), except for possibly the top drive icons, which might be from ChaNinja (http://chaninja.deviantart.com), but I can't remember atm, and I'm on my Church's wireless where deviantart is blocked due to adult content.
Woven Thorns Productions (http://www.woventhorns.com) is my web development business that makes no money, but is fun to have around. (Website graphics, html, css, php developed under Ubuntu linux :D )

If anyone is interested there's a faster d3a gtk port to the eXperience engine.
http://gnomesupport.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=10725&highlight=
I need to put the d3a arrow in the menu before I release at gnome-look but other than that it's good. It's purpose is to give themers an easy example to follow for using the eXperience engine instead of the pixbuf engine. I haven't tinkered with it enough to say whether that is a good or bad thing or how much more flexible it is. The developer says test results say it is faster, and it does feel faster.
Here's what I'm looking at so far this month.

Thanks, I'm trying KDE out now.
I just installed the Kubuntu desktop on my Dapper build to test with XGL/Compiz. My only two complaints are that now the KDE theme bleeds over into Gnome and Superkaramba does not play nice with XGL/Compiz. Here is a screenshot of my current KDE desktop.

Those are Gdesklets btw. Superkaramba bleeds through my browser when XGL/Compiz is active.

I tried this and i think its a really polished theme and would love to use it except for the fact that a lot of my system tray icons have white backgrounds which means they stick out horrendously on black back grounds. Why oh why do developers not choose transparent pixels by default >_<

That's Enlightenment DR17 (http://www0.get-e.org/) not KDE. That's why there are no panels.
So (as default in many window managers) application-menues, windowlist-functions etc can be accessed by mouse or by pressing user-defiend keys. The answer to your question would be I prefer keybindings for launching applications. That could also be accomplished in KDE.

That's just a transparent gnome-panel. I've got one at the bottom of my screen:

It doesn't zoom or expand. For that you'd probably need to use a desklet.

RL Launcher? never even heard of that one :) Apart from the cairo-clock, I don't use any extra apps on my desktop. I even removed the icons instantly after the screenshot (they would get hidden anyway when I launch my glslideshow wallpaper ;) )
It's just a gnome panel. If I'd figure ot how to get rid of those bars at the ends of the panel, I'd use a background pic on the bottom panel too (like the top panel has).
Gnome's panels are actually very flexible things. I just noticed that there is even option for scaling panel backgrounds in gconf-editor (I'm not sure if it was there in Breezy, I don't remember seeing it but I might just have missed it) If they'd only get rid of the stupid bars, and fix the transparency issue in Gnome 2.14, gnome-panels would look awesome :)

ALSO, how do you add that gnome panel in the middle of the screen at the bottom? Someone earlier said theirs was just a panel and not gdesklets, but I don't know how to configure one like that.

uuh. transparent panel backgrounds really don't work well in gnome 2.14.. they get strange colors, as you can see.. The images have no colors but white, but they become yellow in panels.. Also, I have mentioned that if anybody needs resized/modified versions of the images, send me a message and I'll do them. :) Those panels were made to fit my panel layout in Breezy, and I didn't use menubar but the single-button menu..
I also attached my current background pics to the 'rounded gnome-panels'-thread: http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=108446
They only use transparency for rounded corners so they look a lot better in Dapper.. The old images work great in Breezy though.
Edit: It's also possible to set the background pics to scale properly in panels with gconf-editor (in Dapper, at least, I don't remember seeing this option in Breezy but I might have just missed it).. See the link, I have put the instructions in the last post ;)

Here is my April desktop finally. The OSXish icon set is great. I am running XGL with Compiz. The blocks you see in the backround are not part of my wallpaper- they are constantly moving! I have also enabled the rain effect. This has lead to some tearing, but you can get the idea from the screenshot.
I am also showing off the miniwin pluggin! Far better than any gdesklet.

killall gnome-panel
also, take out
#widget_class "*MenuItem*" style "panel"

or black will be in your menuitem
to do what you want, the only color you should 'need' to uncomment is
# bg[NORMAL] = "#000000"
because you are using a pixmap for bg normal.

I don't know about wanda. I suppose it's possible, in my PS2-Linux it gives you a fortune by default when you log in to Gnome, so I guess I could try to check there if I can figure out how it's done.. I just left the wanda popup open in the screenshot because I was quite amazed when it refused to give me a fortune (until I looked at the date ;)).

Anyway, I'd like a black theme, and there isn't too many of those around. But I'm having some problems making black background to work in all applications. Just got a new laptop with a pretty nice nvidia card, so I'm finally messing around with eye candy. :D I'm waiting for Dapper to be officially released before I mess with xgl. This composite manager stuff is pretty neat though, and I love how it doesn't really slow down my system at all.

GTK theme is Triton (http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=37633), I just uploaded it to gnome-look. I'm still working on it, but it's usable already. (And I'm leaving tomorrow for a 10-day trip to New York so I thought I'd better upload it before I leave)
I have no idea where I got the wallpaper, so don't ask ;)

the gtk icon theme is based on the pastels-nuvola icons (http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=19545). the application icons are called somatic and can be found at dlanham.com (http://www.dlanham.com/goodies/soma/). the wallpaper is also found on that site.

Hey guys, I have a question. Should I just wait for Dapper to release to use XGL and compiz, or when should I make the upgrade? I really want to use it now, but last time when I tried to upgrade I got an error with Xauthority that was never solved.
Also, does XGL work in KDE, and does anyone have screenshots of it? I only see it working in GNOME...

Looks nice, but your SuperKarama hard disk thing's showing home as empty - mine did as well, if you find the .theme file (/home/user/.kde/share/apps/superkaramba/theme/<themename>/*.theme) and edit it you should be able to set where the Home dir is so that it reports a proper %.. Nice huh :)
BTW, how do you "edit" your system to show a log in your desktop of current activity?
Like if you're gonna apt-get update/upgrade and I want it to be seen on my desktop?
I'm using the konsole - yakuake if that matters

you mean seeing the console output directly on the desktop? well... you set kwin to hide borders for that window, than set the console app to be transparnt an hide the menubar and scrollbar. easy, right?
unfortunatelly, it doesn't work with konsole, cuz it always leaves a frame around the window. I use gnome-terminal for such a thing. others work, too.
nice wallpaper, btw :)
