Is anyone actually working on MythTV themes. Its seems that there isn't that much work going on. I would think with so many users of Mythbuntu or MythTV in general there would be more theme development.

I can't find a theme I really like out of the few included and I keep switching. I'm now working to develop my own, and so far I'm borrowing heavily from the MythCenter-wide theme. I was surprised that there isn't that many community based themes out there.

I was looking on the MyhtTV wiki and the info for creating one's own is rather jumbled and seemingly messy too. So far I've learned to take one of the pre-installed themes, change the background image, add support for launching Boxee and Hulu Desktop, and to use GIMP and Gedit to edit certain icons and there placement and what not.

Things I want to know if they are possible:

1. Is it possible to have animated images or wallpapers for the main menu? I love how Sony's PS3 moving wallpaper looks and would love to do something similar.
2. Audible Clicks/Beeps when navigating the menu? Silence is golden but adding a sound gives the GUI some life.
3. If I'm looking at my recorded TV shows, instead of just a picture is it possible to have it play a small clip of the show?

I know I might be asking a lot, but I figure this stuff cant be impossibly hard.

I know nothing about theme development, but I just wanted to chime in and drop some kudos off for you. Themes can be a great "wow" factor when showing off your newly setup media centre. However the only two I currently "like" are Mythbuntu's and the new Arclight. But arclight, I find taxing on my eyes. beautiful colour and layout. well, I don't like the guide, it looks ugly! But the rest is nice.

I would really like to see more options with the theming in mythtv.

to answer #3; at one point mythtv did actually play a video. I don't know if you can turn it back on or not. Or if it's been removed. but I believe 8.10 had a small clip that was ripped right from your recording.

SnafuFlux I completely agree with you. MythTV needs to update its looks. Sure Arclight is its newest theme and it looks good aside from the pixelated image on the main screen. I've been looking through the guides on MythTV's wiki and a good portion of it has either been deleted or isn't kept updated. Google searching for result leads to pages that are 3-4 years old. It seems that the people using MythTV are either too few in number or don't care to share their knowlege in simple t follow guides, or don't care about the themes and think using something developed 8 years ago is fine.

No I didn't until now... seems to be what I'm looking for.

My google search lead to this

and to this
http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Creating_themes

Which is why I was partly frustrated.

But These still don't answer my questions.
