Hello, everyone. I am hoping that at least a few of you will choose to stick with me on this endeavor. I am attempting to install linux on the following system:

iMac G3 (Rev A) Grape
333mhz
160mb
6gb

---------------------------

Now that that's out of the way, on to the main issue. I can so far only boot into the installation of Finnix - after which it gives me an error about "vmlinux not found".

So, I was wondering, what kind of linux can I put on here?

And how would I go about doing so?

Thanks,

-Don

As I told you, try a netinstall. I'd go for Debian Lenny.

Alright, then. I don't know how to do that but I'm sure Google will be my friend on this one :P.

I also provided you with a link. I give you another one:
http://mac.linux.be/content/mint-lxde-debian-lenny-ppc

You can replace mini.iso by any netinstall iso.

Are you sure Debian would run well on my machine?

Ubuntu is Debian, in a manner of speaking.

I installed one couple of days ago.Don't worry, debian runs well. You need a good xorg.conf though. There are a couple around, depends on your type of imac G3.This one's a 5521 model and this xorg.conf worked for me:
##mac-ppc-slot-loader-500_600_700-xorg.conf##

# Apple iMac G3/500 (Early 2001 - Flower/Blue) Specs (M7669LL/A*)
# Apple iMac G3/600 SE (Early 2001) Specs (M7680LL/A*)
# Apple iMac G3/700 SE (Summer 2001) Specs (M8510LL/A*)
# ATI Rage 128 Ultra (AGP 2X) video with 16 MB of VRAM.
# Maximum RAM: 1.0 GB (two 512 MB modules).
