Hey all,

Recently I have had a couple of problems with white bars coming on to the screen and freezing. The mouse still works, but these bars are covering everything else and the only thing the computer responds to is Alt+SysRq+REISUB. I have had some problems with Flashing white bars across half the screen, but those were big (maybe 1cm across) while these bars are small (maybe 1mm across) and don't flash. I was able to fix the first bars with help from here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Bugs/Lucidi8xxFreezes by installing my graphics card drivers. I'm not sure if I'm the only one, but when I go to turn the computer off these bars replace the taskbars. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Oh and I'm Xubuntu 10.04 on a crappy old dell

I have exactly the same problem on an old HP running Ubuntu linux 10.04. Sure hope someone can help. When my computer freezes, I have no alternative except to turn it off. Seems to be no rhyme nor reason to when it happens or why.
