What does WUBI do within Windows 7?

Can Ubuntu be installed within Windows 7 running as a "virtual machine"?

Can some one point me to where I can learn more? I have a Linux Pro Magazine July 2010 DVD that boots Ubuntu 'live' but I would like to do more.

Also I can't figure out how to get to my wireless network with the 'live' distro.

I have an HP laptop running a 64 bit version of Windows 7.

Thanks for your help,

Hdtvman

You can safely and easily install Ubuntu under Windows using WUBI.

Similarly, you can easily remove it as well. You have to go to Start -> Control Panel -> Add & Remove Programs -> Ubuntu and then 'Uninstall'

That's it! :p
No need for messing up your filesystem at all.

hdtvman,

Here is another good resource: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/WubiGuide . Just as a side note - be sure and defrag Windows 7 before installing Wubi - twice is better - that helps ensure contiguous disk space for the Wubi files.
