My question was to be "google earth" I've downloaded google earth, it's in downloaded files, how do I install it? but when I tried to sign up for this forum I ran into a problem. I'm unemployed and your application requires I list a job title. There are more than 15 million of us officially and probably that many more unofficially. Now back to the google earth situation. I'm experienced with windows, just click on the exe file, but in Linux I feel like a beginner. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to Ubuntu.

i don't have google earth but look here; https://help.ubuntu.com/community/GoogleEarth

for info on what is required for install.

The feelings of being a noob soon subside by the way :P

This forum is full of very helpful folks, and remember Google is your friend.

The easiest way is to probably install it from medibuntu (http://medibuntu.org/) using the normal package system.

First, download it from here (http://earth.google.com/thanks.html#os=linux).
Then, right click on it, and check the "Allow executing file as program" box on Properties-Permissions. After that, run the terminal, type
cd /home/username/wherever_the_file_is and then type
sudo ./GoogleEarthLinux.binEDIT: I'm sorry, didn't see the link above
