There are some icons in the system tray that are doing nothing most of the time (for me). The bluetooth manager, the printer icon, the battery monitor and the device manager. Is there some way to get them to hide themselves if they are not active? Eg I would like the printer icon to display itself only when there are printing jobs.

I removed by right clicking and remove from panel. I can still use the functions from the control center.

I don't have this 'remove from panel' option. Eg the printer applet has a 'restore' and 'quit' option. But the quit option is only for the current session. Next time I start KDE the printer applet is back.
