View Full Version : [ubuntu] Macbook 2,1 without OS X

I have a macbook 2,1 that I am trying to install ubuntu on. I do not have OS X installed (my old hard drive having failed) and do not have my OS X dvds. I burned a live CD which works fine booting from cd but it will not boot up after I install to the new hard drive - it simply shows a blinking question mark. I came across rEFIt which I take it is the solution to this problem but I do not have OS X to run it. Is there another way I can make it see the ubuntu install?

hold down the 'alt' key when you turn on your computer.
You should see a hard drive pop up that says "windows", when that pops up, let go of the 'alt' key, hold down the control key so the arrow pointing up turns into an arrow going in a circle, and click on it.
that "Windows" hard drive is actually ubuntu. doing the steps above will tell your macbook to always boot up from that partition.
