Wow... I just downloaded and installed Ubuntu yesterday and I just have to say... its completely amazing! I mean... its so fast, so stable, so simple... so EVERYTHING!

Before I tried Ubuntu I have used Slackware, Mandrake, SUSE, Topologi and Fedora Core. None of these can even compete with Ubuntu!! not even slackware. I was somewhat dissapointed when I realized that gcc wasnt installed with the system, but when I after searching on google for a while found out that I just had to type a simple command in the console to install it I was even more thrilled then before!! \\:D/

Ubuntu is the future!! keep up the good work!!! \\:D/

this forum is by far the most amazing "feature" of Ubuntu comparied to other distros. this forum has been a major part of installing for me. i had 3 problems when i began and Mendicant has helped me either fix them, or has given me insight in how to figure out myself what to look for.
i am so impressed with Linux as an OS, and more so with Ubuntu. it was so easy to install, and it runs so well on my old laptop (133 Mhz).
plus with a lot of the extras i have on it, there is a small footprint for such a good OS.

ubuntu is best of the best :)
I also tried many distros.
As linux newbie in the begining I liked KDE more (beacouse it's win clone), but than I was tired of it (too many buttons, settings...). GNOME is sexy :) and simpel, but powerfull.
I tried monster-distros (3-5 CD) SuSE, Mandrake, ASP(RedHat clone). I tried different distros almost every month. I also like Yoper, it is really good distro, but after ubuntu I don't want to try something else.

Now if only they didn't cause problems when updating to hoary. It's a shame really that that happens.

As a standard, I never upgrade between different releases by just changing where my sources.list points and issuing "apt-get dist-upgrade." I've never thought that that was a good way to update. I generally just reinstall over the old / and /boot, since I use a seperate /home partition. But thanks for the info about it I wasn't aware that ubuntu backports causes said issue.

It's a myth. Whether or not you follow my rollback procedure, the upgrade process goes just as flawlessly. Even with a leftover synaptic or such, it's not too hard to do an apt-show-versions search for "ubp" and reinstall.
