View Full Version : [ubuntu] Normalising .ogg files...

After using mp3's for forever, I've had a chance to use .ogg files. To my mind they sound much better than mp3's. My only problem with swapping solely to .ogg is that I can normalise mp3's using easymp3gain (or such). And, after some research, I can't seem to find any software for Ubuntu that will do this same operation for .ogg.

I've tried SoundKonverter which does normalise .ogg, but you can't set the amount you which to normalise. Upon playback on RhythmBox the clipping almost destroys the sound on some tracks.

What I need is a customisable .ogg normaliser otherwise my mp3 collection will remain and continue to grow at the expense of the superior .ogg.

Any ideas of software which may help my dilemma would be much appreciated.

Easymp3gain (make sure you install vorbisgain first), can also do oggs... :)

Why not use replaygain instead of normalisation?

Try audacity, which lets you view the waveform while you edit. Normalising should not have any settings as it simply raises the volume to the maximum amount, so you should never hear any clipping.
