I have been playing with Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx on this Apple G4 Mirror Door and am enjoying it. This is my first exposure to Linux of any sort, and I like the ease of use and variety of free software.

One of the applications I picked up is a stop-motion animation studio. I plugged in an old Orange Micro iBot Firewire web cam, and.... nothing happened.

So my question is, does anybody know whether there is a generic IEEE 1394 driver, or a generic firwire webcam driver or the like floating around out there? My searches so far have only turned up Windows drivers for this device.

Curious, I plugged an external FW storage drive into the Mac, and again, nothing happened. t is as if Ubuntu does not have any native ability to deal with the Firewire ports on this machine.

Any advice on Firewire issues for camera or other devices in Ubuntu will be appreciated. Thanks!

Maybe you miss a kernel module?

sudo modprobe ieee1394

Maybe you also need to load these ones:

sudo modprobe ohci1394

sudo modprobe sbp2
