Good news everybody: I got World of Warcraft working on Ubuntu!
No more windows! Yey!
However, there is a small drawback.. the perfomance is quite bad on Ubuntu..
I’ve got a Radeon 9500pro 128MB at the moment, and i wouldnt mind upgrading to another card (just for wow..yes, im sick..) but can anyone advice me on what card would work OK?
Ive read one the forums that most people have good experiences on Nvidia cards.. Would that be my best bet, to get rid of Ati, and buy an Nvidia card?
Our could i stick wothj this and try to tweak it?
Any thoughts on this?

the main problem is, that ati is not supported very well on linux in general. there is a proprietary driver available, but it's pain installing it. however, i succeeded one week ago:-) on the other side, nvidia has much better support for linux drivers. so - from this point of view - there's no doubt that nvidia is the way to go...

ATI support for linux is not very good, in reviews across the net Linux Nvidia drivers outstrip Linux ATI drivers...... Even with comparable cards.
My vote ;)
NVIDIA... at least a Nvidia 6200 card for basic gaming (Quake 4 anyone) ;) .

I had nothing but nightmares with my ATI. They were the kings for a while (arguably are again), but nVidia has always had better driver support, windows or Linux. In Linux the difference is dramatic. I am sticking with nVidia unless ATI pulls ahead in a big way.
nVidia is about even with ATI on the high end, but nVidia has a wider offering of cards. They are quieter and cooler as well which compensates for the small difference in a few games.
The new 7600 series cards look pretty good for the price.
Since you dumped windows, you probably don't care about DX10. If you do, you probably want to hold of until next year when that will be supported in hardware.
$0.02 and nothing more.

As they other people here said, go for Nvidia. Much better drivers and easier to install.
I really hope that ATI do something dramatic on the driver issue for linux.
(got a Nvidia 6600 GT 256 mb myself)

I tried getting my 9700Pro working in Gentoo.. Once.. After a couple days of that frustration, I went out, bought an Nvidia 6800 and all my frustrations (at least video card related ones) instantly went away.
As far as I'm concerned, Nvidia is the only way to go right now i fyou need anything other than the most basic video capabilities.
