Hello all

I am currently building a new system to multi boot XP, Win7 and Ubuntu 10.04. Problem I am having is that the HighPoint RocketRAID 2640x1 card I recently bought does not work with Ubuntu 10.04. Also after more than a month of trying to get tech support it is clear that HighPoint has no intention of helping me get it to work, so I intend to replace it with something that will.

To avoid the hassles I have just been going through I would greatly appreciate it if somebody that has a true hardware RAID card working under Ubuntu 10.04 could tell me what card they used, where they got the drivers and a brief summary please of what hoops they had to jump through to get it all working.

Motherboard:
ASUS P6x58D Premium
http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=wurRaDZ8lo4Ckukj
Hard drives:
4 Hitachi Deskstar 7K2000
http://www.hitachigst.com/deskstar-7k2000

I am looking for a card that will handle all four 2 terabyte SATA 2 drives in a RAID 5 configuration. It needs to be able to break the 2 terabyte limit. It should use a PCIe x1 or PCIe 2.0 x16 port and it should cost about $400 US or less, this is a user system not a server.

Oh, I should mention that the RAID array will be a single user filesystem on a single partition and will not be used to boot anything. KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) principle.
Also my Ubuntu boot drive is a 300 Gig SATA 2 attached to one of the the motherboard SATA ports and 10.04 is working fine for me except for the RAID card issue and the lack of Ubuntu drivers for the Marvell SATA 3 ports on the motherboard.

Thanx
Steve
