What is the amount of inactive time before you get kick off the forum and have to log in again. I seem to be relogging in alot over a short period of time. Just curious.

As long as you keep your cookies, there is no time limit.

I've been logged in for months now...

I've just check my cookies in firefox and the forum is listed. It seems that I'm away for about 20 minuites or so and come back and update the page I have to log back in. Might be something on my end though.

The cookies here have a lifetime of six months, so that can't be the issue.

Just ran across this scanning the forum and it seems the following MAY be relative.

Cookies cookies cookies! Whos cookies? The forums software or the users PC? On another fourm, with a look and feel near the same as this, I was having logon issues. It seems as if jumping 'tween threads (and back) I'd be logged in on some and not in others!

Allso where I have to enter my password at each login.

The modorater offered me this in the forum (text copy here xxxx's my edit):
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Current Site Cookie Information
Cookie Name Cookie Value
bbsessionhash e6fxxxxxxxxxxxxxx07274df9d7
bblastvisit 1xxxxxxxxxx3981
bblastactivity 0
bbforum_view 261b0xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx158_i-1143564005_}
bbuserid 42560
bbpassword 0xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxf95721
vbulletin_collapse
bbreferrerid 0
bbthreadedmode
bbstyleid 0
bblanguageid 0

[Delete these cookies] <--button/icon

Deleting your site cookies can help resolve login or logout problems. After Deleting your cookies, please relogin to see if this solves any problems.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Which I did and it resolved that issue. (Password entry each login still there also)

But that now begs the question regarding WHO'S 'stored cookies' and password security on the 'near look alike forums'.

Currently in FireFox 'MY' stored password is 'blank' and is deleted immediately after entering and validation. Why is 'near look alike forums' software managing MY data on MY PC???

It was suggested on this forum (another thread offering it had been discussed afore) that the password be place manually to compensate???? Which FireFox doesn't allow. (Me anyway) But then, it would be deleted, made blank, anyway on the next login.

Is the problem with the forum software? Which still has the box 'remember me' to check. Hmm, I guess it IS rembering ME. Just not my password.

Checking FireFox Tools and password, ONLY the 'near look alike forums' are deleting 'MY' passwords on MY PC. While Mail accounts, GooGle, eBay, etc. all have MY passwords intact.

Is there a 'public' definitionon this? One that would not be compromising security?

I have a philosophy that says "The computer should work for me and not I it!"

Are we going backwards?

Currently I'm writing from my XP laptop in a warm room. But the same thing occurs on the ubuntu loaded desktop in the a very cold building. :-)

Thanks for the ear, ...BluGold

Ooops, Real time problem!

Are you sure you are allowing cookies from the ubuntuforums.org domain? And you are sure there is a check box next to the remember me box ?
