Hi,

Is there any easy-to-use program for ubuntu like handbrake or autogk for windows?

Or which software do you think is the best for creating avi or mkv files on linux?

Thanks

Handbrake exists for linux :-).

It's even in the standard repositories, at least for lucid. Try searching in Software Center or Synaptic for handbrake, and there should be a "handbrake-gtk" package.

I thought handbrake is not supported now with 10.04, but I'll try

HandBrake is not in the standard Ubuntu repositories and the 0.9.4 release does not work on lucid.

However the nightly snapshots do work on lucid and are available in this PPA. https://edge.launchpad.net/~stebbins/+archive/handbrake-snapshots

Doesn't dvdrip allow creating avi containers? And what about ffmpeg/winff?
