I'm brand-spanking new to Ubuntu and have pretty much zero programming experience. I run Windows 7 on my laptop but I wanted to try Ubuntu so I partitioned the hard drive and installed it. When I boot Ubuntu, it goes fine until I have to log in to my account. It show my name but doesn't accept my password (the same login/password that I use for Windows 7.) Did it change my password? How do I set up a new one? If someone could help, that'd be great.

Well, a few possible reasons I can think of:

Is caps-lock on?

Do you generally use a US keyboard on Windows? If, for example, you're used to typing on a German keyboard, but Ubuntu is defaulting to a US keyboard, you're going to get your z's and y's switched when you type your password, , , are going to be replaced by ', ;, and [, etc. Similar problems will occur for French, Polish, or Elbonian keyboards.
