This is Gnome with a KDE Oxygen theme and Oxygen icons and using kdewin as the Window Manager. However, I normally use Compiz as I llike teh wobbly wiinders but I really like the crisp clean look that kdewin gives.

its crazy how customizable and different each desktop is, i mean if this thread was on a mac or windows forums, everything would look the same other then the amount of icons and background pic. and compare theres pics to the linux desktop of the early 2000's and it will really blow your mind.

Not much different to the last desktop I posted.
Wallpaper link at the end of the May desktop thread.
Radiance theme modified somewhat including Elementary mod and crumbs...
Icons are Elementary.
No compiz or Emerald

I've been playing around with the top frame shade which is usually lighter than the selected_bg_color. Trying out a subtle darker shade option to compliment the look of Gnome panel.
Also trying to 'hide' conky into the wallpaper which is kind of difficult...
Was thinking of gimping in some spotlights or projection, giving the illusion of a 'Now Showing" conky cpu and Mem at its current location on the building in the foreground.
The other idea I had would be to add an Ubuntu billboard somewhere with cpu and mem output in scrolling text fashion.

Here's the desktop of the virtual machine I use to hack and do my programming in. It's just Lucid with a standard wallpaper and a quite minimalistic theme. I don't need any shortcuts or docks (no compositing in a VM :(), I do everything with my keyboard thanks to Gnome Do, Conkeror, Emacs and the terminal. I absolutely love the fonts I'm using!

Thanks to one of the lads in IRC for stopping my wallpaper from being quite so blinding.

I'm still not fully happy with the overall look, but certainly happier than I was an hour or so ago. I'm not sure what's up with my battery icon either, when I first started playing it reverted to the default icon, and now it simply isn't there...

Running Openbox Statler, with the pixelelegance-1.1 ob theme, and a modified Murrina-Tangoesque gtk. Also the first time my tint2 has had a border in months.

It would be cool if there was a monitoring application ( a bit like screenlets) that would pick up images from tweets, flickr, mag. covers from new issues, stock graphs, weather images and text summaries from bbc, reuters, , etc... constantly flooding the screen at quick intervals. Giving you a constant snapshot (montage) of the world. In one frame you might have 7 different images, 3 different graphs, 5 different text summaries, 4 different scores.

I prefer your black, red and white version,
but this one seems more usable.

Nice work :)

Thanks.

Yeah, that black/red/white desktop wasn't very usable. And I like that brown and blue as you've probably noticed by now :)

you should show htop in those screenshots too to show off the resource usage.

I've attached another screenshot for your pleasure. Opera is running on a different workspace, and mocp is playing in a different screen window.

My guess would be MintMenu on the left for applications and Gnome Main Menu on the right, using the favourites pane to launch scripts?
Or maybe even the text labels printed directly onto the panel with the custom menus arranged next to them?

Otherwise probably xfce or lxde panels or something (I haven't used the for ages so not sure what they can do).

If not I would be very interested to how to add custom menus to gnome panel WITH TEXT LABELS!.
Something I have been trying to figure out for as long as I can remember.

That's because it's probably Nautilus Elementary, not the stock Nautilus that comes with Ubuntu.

joebodo

The theme is pretty much elementary for the GTK controls - I hacked up the theme a bit to have the Tree view colored up the same as the Places view. The metacity frame is RadianceOsliner - again, hacked up to be smaller, no title, and the controls changed a bit.

Also, the default nautilus is replaced with the Nautilus Elementary version.

Flawless man. What terminal are you using by the way? Gnome terminal or urxvt? I know Urxvt by default has this wide spacing feature for ttf fonts, which could be rectified with a patch of course. If its gnome terminal, then the wide spacing must be a font characteristic. You could try Pragmata as your terminal font, since its height is more or less similar to your UI font.

@Mark- sorry, i saw your query just now. this is xfce of course. But Version 3, when it still had the cde look. I have a few hacks here and there as well. I am currently preparing my own minimal OpenSolaris distro (ChromaX) for release, so thought of experimenting with xfce3 as the default desktop model. I will try out xfce2 over the weekend, which does not depend on gtk12 and all widgets use only xforms.

But building xfce3 should be pretty easy nevertheless. Feel free to contact me if you run into issues
