which means that it may be the reason why I am not getting sound in my ubuntu 10.04?

and

sudo lspci -v

shows that the sound card is :

00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation 82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 03)
Subsystem: Acer Incorporated [ALI] Device 0064
Flags: medium devsel, IRQ 10
I/O ports at 1c00 [size=256]
I/O ports at 18c0 [size=64]

Memory at d0000800 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=256]

which means that Intel ICH4 should have an IRQ assigned?

Try booting with irqpoll option. Press 'Esc' to access grub right after you start and add the word 'irqpoll' to the 'linux' line.
