View Full Version : [ubuntu] Evolution is unstable since upgrade to 10.4

Since I upgraded to 10.4, I find Evolution unstable. When I get invitation acceptance replies, when I select update attendees, it freezes. It also crashes for no reason, when sending or receiving messages or moving them. There seems to be no pattern....

I have three accounts running and all are IMAP.

I am now using 10.4 and Evolution seems fine...
Any other problems?

What happens if you temporarily disable two of the accounts?
Maybe one of the addresses changed a port or something?
Have you tried using Thunderbird (I know not a solution but both are very similar)?
Have tried deleting you evolution data from your PC and then re-adding the accounts? Be careful and make a backup before trying this experiment....

I have turned off two accounts and I'll see what happens

How could I check?

I looked at Thunderbird, not for me, I do like Outlook 2007 and 2010 very much and would like to use on one of my machines - this one, the most important - but I use google to host my domain and they use IMAP and SSL, and there seems to be an issue with Outlook on Ubuntu when using SSL. I have another thread for that.

Interesting. The problem seems to be when Evolution is syncronizing with Google. If it has not just completed the sync or it starts one during "Update a Meeting" process, then it greys out a freezes. Only solution is to close it down and restart. Force a Send Recieve, and then update.

Dont use it then. Use Thunderbird or something else.
Evolution isnt the most stable program ever made. I had problems with its stability since 8.04 (where i first used it). In newer Ubuntus up to 9.10 it was the same. then i switched to Debian Squeeze, it was still the same crashy thing.
I just started to use Seamonkey (it has a Thunderbird-like mailer included) and now Opera (which has an excellent non-standard mailer interface).

If I could get Outlook working on Ubuntu with IMAP and SSL , that is what I would use. It's far better than any of these clients.... But at present, I can't. So far.
