View Full Version : [ubuntu] How do you set up scrolling between gnome10.04 workspaces?

In 8.04 you could use your mouse's scroller, the center thing on a mouse,
with its pointer located on the desktop,
to move between the workspaces of your desktop.

I'd like to be able to set this convenience up in 10.04.

I found mouse setting could be made in the following 3 locations:
System > Preferences > Mouse,
Computer > Edit > Preferences,
System > Preferences > Windows.
Nothing in these seems to relate to scrolling.

Thanks for any hep and regards - Randy (rchilling@comcast.net)

why you don't use ccsm. I am using middle click of mouse to rotate desktop cube. :)

I initiated this thread and here is something I started but did not know how to complete.
Way down the list in Sys > Prefs > Keyboard Shortcuts are options for moving between workspaces.
I don't think you can setup a mouse action up as a keyboard shortcut.

Hi

I am having the exact same experience! I want to roll my mouse wheel forward one notch to rotate cube right and roll it one notch backward to rotate cube left. I also want to click the roll-wheel to activate the 3d ¨cube¨ (although I use 6 desktops/hexagon, it suits me better)

Please help:confused:

PS: What is ccsm?

ccsm is the Compiz Config Settings Manager, the interface for setting all the various functions compiz has to offer.

Oh! ok :) I have CCSM and have used it lots.

I have poked my nose all over everywhere in CCSM, but I cannot find where to get the rotate cube to be activated by rolling the mouse wheel backwards or forwards. Nor can I make it initiate the 3d cube by clicking and holding in the mouse wheel.
It only gives me the option of Ctrl+Alt+mouseleftclick to activate the 3d cube, and it only allows me Ctrl+Alt+left arrow to rotate cube left, or Ctrl+Alt+right arrow to rotate the cube right

? :(

Well it seems clicking and holding the mouse wheel to rotate the cube was set as default on mine, its not something I set myself, or even knew was set till I read this thread looking for the same answer :P however I think I like the middle click just as much

ccsm->Viewport Switcher->Desktop-based Viewport Switching->Move Next (default: scroll up)
ccsm->Viewport Switcher->Desktop-based Viewport Switching->Move Prev (default: scroll down)

... I think, that's how I remember doing it at least :p

the only options for any of those are buttons 1 thru 9, no mention of scrolling

You can't just click on it and then scroll your mouse wheel? In past versions of compiz that was all I had to do... because I usually changed it. If that doesn't work then I'm not sure, sorry. Was there a reason they changed it by default?

AHA!!!!!!!!!!:guitar:

Button 2 = clicking the mouse wheel itself

Button 4 IS Scroll Down

Button 5 IS Scroll Up

=D> !THANK YOU COMPIZ WIKI! =D>

I think you can set these in the rotate cube plugin or in the viewport switch plugin. I did it in the viewport switch plugin, and it works like a charm!

I rate this thread is solved then?

\\:D/  :D
