Hello,

I am running ubuntu 10.04 and have just done an update.

Uname -a:

Linux XXXXX-laptop 2.6.32-22-generic #33-Ubuntu SMP Wed Apr 28 13:27:30 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux

The Problem:

The wireless display icon is now missing on the left hand side of the panel and the empathy IM client icon is also missing although it is running.

How can I get these icons back on the panel?

Just right click on the panel > Add to panel and then select 'Indicator Applet'

Right click on the panel, and select "Add to Panel"

From there you can use "Notification Area" which houses your wireless display, and I believe the empathy client icon will show in there as well.

If it doesn't let me know...

I have the same problem. - after installing new update - there some troubles with gnome panel. - sometimes missing wireless icon - sometimes there is a blank white square instead of it, or it shows only half of the icon. After restarting there are some oranges doted boxes around some icons on panel. weird.
