I was recently copying some files to my external HD, when my computer froze. Sp I hard booted my computer. This has happened to me before, and all I have had to do was defrag my external HD.

BUT this time my entire filesystem has become inaccessible except through sudo nautilus. Nothing shows up on the desktop, nothing will open through the menus

Wondering how to fix it.

Is it your external hard drive with the problem?

Sounds like it's having trouble mounting the drive, which I'm not quite sure how to fix. Hopefully somebody else can help you out.

Not a problem with external as that is working just spiffy. The problem is my internal filesystem

Sounds like your filesystem may have been corrupted I'd recommend booting a LiveCD such as system rescueCD and running a check-disk type program.
