I am dual-booting Lucid and W******s Vista. Working great and I am really liking Linux.

I plan to leave the config the way it is, because I still do a lot of .Net and WPF development.

Anyhow, my question is, I have read that it's good to keep your /home data on a separate partition. Would it be good to use a portable drive (which would stay permanently corrected) for this (moving my current /home data to it)? How well do these drives work with Ubuntu?

thanks.

I have done this but am not sure what happens when/if drive gets removed so I stopped but it does work.

I honestly would recommend against it. It is possible but there's quite alot that could corrupt your /home on a portable drive.

Portable drives are not going to be as fast as a hard drive. You could keep useing your main drive for home, but link the documents to the portable drive.
