View Full Version : Out of curiosity, what hardware does this forum run on?

Phrea

I take it it runs on some serious dedicated hardware, there are now 12,000+ people/bots active on the forums, that's some serious, well, what Doc Brown said ! :D

Didn't want to put it in Forum Feedback & Help because it's just curiosity.

EDIT: current stats: Currently Active Users: 12471 (778 members and 11508 guests and 185 Spiders)

I found this picture of the Ubuntu Forum server (http://www.knitemare.org/cats/server.jpg). I'm pretty sure this is it at least...

64 threads per chip ftw.

ok, no I doubt the forum runs off it it actually, but just sayin'. Probably costs less than the MAC server. :P

And do you have some pictures of it/them? I'd [we'd] love to see some pics to go along with the specs/stats.

Wondering how many botnet's it'll take you to bring the server's down? ;)

I wanted to ask the same question back when I was new here but was afraid of being accused of such evil intentions :(

Looks like we have a winner. Apache | Ubuntu (Probably Server Edition) | PHP

That's software, not hardware.

Or am I missing something?

McRat

I'm certainly no expert,

IIRC, Apache is a free open source webserver. PHP is just the language that this BBS software (vBulletin) is written in. It most likely uses mySQL for storing these forum pages and user files. LAMP setup?

vBulletin is open source by nature of PHP code, but it's not freeware.

I believe the hardware is a massively parallel PS3 cluster, with a Sinclair 1000 interface.

Hardware secrets? ;)
Because the software used can easily be seen, including version numbers etc. Complete websites exist to do just that, for fun.
We also know, the server is most likely running Ubuntu, Apache, PHP and MySQL, and vB etc. Hardly any 'secrets' about all that stuff. :D

I just wanted to know what hardware was used, and if they had any pictures.
