View Full Version : [ubuntu] Creating a USB stick from a Mac - newbie

I'm a newbie please be gentle with with me :)

I want to load Ubuntu 10.04 Netbook edition to my Acer Aspire One. I have downloaded it to my MacBook and now need to create a USB stick on my Mac so that I can load it onto the Acer.

I've searched through the various help places and I usually end up back here;

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/FromUSBStick (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/FromUSBStick)

This seems to suggest that I can create it from a Mac (see source machine) but doesn't give any instructions on how to do it.

A full set of simplified instructions would be really good, but any suggestions at all would also be much appreciated.

From the page you linked to:

There is an unresolved issue in that you cannot create a bootable USB stick from within Mac OSX. You must create the stick in Linux or Windows.

There does look like there is a way to do it here (http://www.docstechnotes.com/2009/05/create-bootable-usb-drive-using-os-x.html).
