Hi,
I would like to use some packages in a self-compiled form, so that I can impose optimisations for my particular architecture. I have built and installed ".deb"s for xorg with a notable improvement in system performance from the latest source.
However, the update manager now wants to replace my installed packages with "newer" ones fom the update repositories. This would be fine if there were newer versions, but this is not the case. My compiled packages have exactly the same version numbers as the binaries that are available.
I am sure that I am just missing a trick, because this cannot be an unusual thing to do: can someone tell me the trick or which Fing M to R?
