As Ubuntu 10.04 won't install on my main machine (Windows 7), I wondered if the following old machine was adequate?

AMD Sempron 2400+ (1,600 MHz)
512 Mb Memory
40GB HD drive

Thanks very much.

Should be more than enough to run 10.04. More RAM would be nice though.

I have no idea why 10.04 wont install on that machine, but its not the system specifications.

Thanks for the reply! I've re-read my message above and I see that it's a bit confusing and not very clear - sorry about that. No, those specifications are of a second machine I have, and it's great to see that Ubuntu will work fine on it :)

The machine that Ubuntu won't install on is my main machine - Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM and 500 GB hard drive. When I boot from the Ubuntu CD it just tells me that the installation's failed and boots to the live desktop.

Steve

If you haven't done so, boot the liveCD and run the disk integrity check. Just an idea..
