karmic to lucid upgrade: grub_getcharwidth not found

hi,

i just updated a machine from karmic server x64 to lucid. After reboot i get "symbol grub_getcharwidth not found" and the grub rescue console. If i follow the steps https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2#line-511 i am able to boot the system. Tried to "update-grub" and completly reinstalled grub2 after "dpkg --purge" but still get this message.

someone with an idea or the same problem?
