Hiya guys,

Currently I have a pretty low end web server (http://humphreybc.homeip.net/phpsysinfo) with three hard drives. Problem is, it's quite loud. I've disabled the side case fan, put in acoustic padding and improved ventilation but the PSU is still making slightly too much noise for my comfort.

I'm thinking of replacing the PSU and I've found a couple of ones within my budget, this one (http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=287589664) and this one. (http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=287199837)

Will these be adequate for my setup?

AMD Athlon(tm) XP 1500+ 1.3 GHz CPU
Asus A7N8X-X motherboard
512MB RAM
2x Seagate 250GB Barracudas
1x Western Digital 500GB HDD

For more HW information, see here: http://humphreybc.homeip.net/phpsysinfo

I've tried to minimize power usage to save some money, so the optical drives, front power LED and any PCI cards have been disconnected.

Thanks!

Hi there,

Enermax website has a nice wattage calculator. http://www.enermax.outervision.com/
you can use it to calculate how powerful your power supply needs to be.
Hope that helps

Kind Regards

Chris

Thanks, it came back with 162W recommended. So I think the 300W silent, fanless PSU should work the best!

I would get a 500W model just to be safe. It may be excesive but at low untilizations the efficiency is higher.

A modern 80 pus PSU will pay for itself in no time.

I bought a 680W model, but my machine is slightly more power hungry. My PSU is also efficient, so it pays for the upgrade by lower power bills.
