View Full Version : [ubuntu] Getting cover art off of iPod
May 2nd, 2010, 01:35 PM
I'm moving my music and playlists off of my iPod Touch 1G to my hard drive via gtkpod. The iPod was previously managed with iTunes in XP.
The music can be copied to my hard drive without issue. The album art appears in gtkpod when reading off of the iPod but is not imported with the track, presumably because of the stupid way iTunes manages the art.
Is there any way I can get the tracks and art off of my iPod intact?

I don't mind considering other programs - any advice?

Imports from... my iPod or the internet?

as it seems - from the files' metadata.
i'm not sure if there is a difference between files imported from the iPod and files taken directly from the iTunes library.

Yes, that's the problem. iTunes keeps cover art data outside of the metadata.
I think I figured out that I need to embed the cover art data, which most likely requires me to do some automated work in iTunes (ie Windows). Ugh.
Thanks all for the help.

thats strange, because when i imported my files to songbird it also included alternative cover art i used myself. could be that the data for the coverart is located within the folders or something.
