Evolution Address book Ubuntu One is not synchronizing with Ubuntu One. I have waited more than an hour now. No contacts show in in the Evolution address book called Ubuntu One. How do I sync Evolution with Ubuntu One. I have Evolution-couchdb installed.

Our service has been experiencing large spikes with the release of Lucid and is making certain key parts of the system to not function properly. We had to turn off contacts and notes sync while we address the issues. We're working on fixing these problems right now. We'll keep you updated in two ways on our progress:

1) http://identi.ca/ubuntuone
2) https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuOne/Status

Again, apologies for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

Thank you,

Joshua

Hey Joshua,

Can you give an estimate how long we've to wait until the service for contacts and notes is running again?

Thanks,
Ralf

Hi Ralf,

We hope to have it back up this week. It's taken us longer than we ever thought it would as we add more CouchDB servers into the mix to help balance the load.

Thank you,

Joshua

I have the same problem. Ubuntu 10,4 Evolution 2.28.3.
Moved all contacts to 'Ubuntu one contacts' and made it default.
'sync contacts' activated in Ubuntu one preferences.
All this one 2 computers on which file sync works (but slow).

Nothing is syncronized and 'contacts' on ubuntu one server is still empty after 2 days

What happened?

Hi Terra,

It is a huge topic discussed on launchpad (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntuone-servers/+bug/585530). Meanwhile I find it very embarrassing for Ubuntu. This feature has been mentioned quite often to gain more Ubuntu users, but in the end it doesn't work. Joshua's post gave me some hope. He wrote to bring the system up within one week. And that was mid May ... check the date today!!

I think they totally underestimated the interest for such a service. And than they have been overrun and could not scale up the system. I think that they went back to the drawing board and start planing the service from scratch.

Now they give access to a selected group of people to test their service.

The Ubuntu guys made two huge mistakes:
1. They advertised their service as being ready. But it seems that they simply didn't think of scalability. At least they should have declared it as beta. Frustration would be by far less.
2. They were and still are not that smart on communicating that issue. They should go out with one voice and simply say that they made a big mistake (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuOne/Status#Contacts) and that the service is done for 10.10 or even the next release. Instead Ubuntu still advertise the distro as one which mobilises your digital live (http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop).

Aaarrggg! I'm really disappointed by that. Everyone of us goes out and talks good about Ubuntu and tries to advertise it.

Well, I don't see any reason to change to another distro. I still think with Canonical in the background that distro has a bright future. But they should just be more careful how they deal with hopes in the community. We're no Windows users who just swallow whatever MS gives them.

Keep up the good work Ubuntu guys, but be more communicative!

Ralf

I fully agree. But to be honest, if you open the Ubuntu One Webportal the service is indicated as BETA. Have a look on there logo on the top left. ;)

Hi hartl_vienna,

Oh, you're right!! I should use a magnifier as well ;)
But to me honest I don't think that many people recognised it. There are many better ways to indicate that the service is not working. A few suggestions were posted (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntuone-servers/+bug/585530/comments/76) on launchpad.

Hope they fix it soon.

Ralf
